What October is for.
By the middle of October the company return should already have a home, either filed or on its earlier extended day. October is the owner's personal extension. It is a day to aim the next step, not a day to rebuild the company from scratch.
That day does not slide because you moved, and it does not slide because the shop had a busy summer. Federal days are stubborn. We like them for that. A calendar you can trust is more useful than a calendar that flatters you.
If the company return is still open in October, we say so out loud. The fix is to close months and finish that return, not to pretend October covers both.
Aim, do not reopen.
October does not reopen a month that already matched. A question about an old week becomes a note, not a silent rewrite, unless the statement itself was wrong. Rewriting closed months to chase a feeling is how the file loses its spine.
What October can still change is the owner's plan for the rest of the year. Withholding on the paycheck, the size of the next estimate, and whether the wage note still describes the work. Those look forward.
The draw you already took is history. October does not rename it. If it was larger than the room you had, we deal with that as a fact, not as a line we wish we had written differently.
The week after the day.
After the October day, the next week is an ordinary week again. Receipts, the paycheck, the draw, the match. The special day is over. The habit is the close.
